I learned that the video making process is time consuming. There is a lot of thought that goes into the planning, filming, and editing of a psa. I also learned about group dynamics and how to work efficiently.
The most challenging aspect of the video process was probably the scheduling of when we were going to do the filming.
I think something needs to be changed around rough draft of the psa. It was a little unclear of what a rough draft is and how it should be different than the final copy.

Yes I believe that our PSA is effective. We really worked hard on including small details in the film that would add to the message. Although it is hard to know what is enough I think we included a good amount. We have not finished our editing yet so we still have the oppurtunity to effect the message and effectiveness of the piece.

Blog #5 (Mitchell)
Our group has about half of our filming done and no editing done. We are going in on Sunday to edit the first part of our film. On Monday and Tuesday we are finishing the filming and will just need one more day to edit. I am not content with the draft that we have now but I do think we are on track to producing an effective PSA.

We are currently stalled in our video making process. We have everything planned but need to start filming. We need to all get together and plan when to get together. I has really been nice that we agree on the direction of our PSA. The biggest obstacle is probably going to be the editing and making our video effective.

I hardest part so far and I think it will continue to be is planning the small details in the film. From analyzing the PSAs in class I learned that the little details in a film really make the difference. In our video we need to make sure that the little details support our message and aren't saying something different.

The pitch went okay. It was difficult to summarize the PSA with just the right amount of detail to show our message. The responses to our pitch were that it sounded more like a ipod advertisement. So we need to be conscious of this and slightly change what we are going to do. The feedback was however all and all helpful.
Our PSA is more directed to theSouth High School community than the general public. However the topic is very relevant and people will be very interested. There is a debate going on about the electronic policy and this PSA will help the argument to allow the use of electronics.
Our target audience is really to the administration. We want them to change the rules about using electronics. We need to include ideas and details that are related to their interests. For example, the administration wants us to learn relevant information so if we show that text books can't provide that and electronics can it will benefit our PSA.

Public service announcements are an easy way for interest groups to spread their idea to the public. PSA's provide factual information about a concern in today’s society. They are usually informative and try to motivate the public to change. Our group was pretty set on one idea from the beginning. We want to do our PSA on the restrictions the school puts on electronics and how electronics can really enhance learning in the classroom. We plan to show the contrast in our PSA of being able to use electronics in school and not. I specifically helped develop what are angle was going to be on the argument. We knew what we wanted to say but I made the argument realistic so that the PSA will be taken seriously.

The Skittles "taste the rainbow" advertising campaign was and is still very successful. It is effective because they were able to create a phrase that was really catchy and you would remember. The phrase "taste the rainbow" is also descriptive of what the candy actually is, colorful. It is also effective because the name of the product is part of the slogan.
Advertising plays a huge role in what I buy. If I am at a store I buy the things that are familiar to me or the things I have heard of. I am even willing to pay more for something that I have heard through advertisements. Advertising also affects the trends in what people buy, which doesn't directly affect me but it indirectly does.

In the last two MTN visits I learned alot about the critical thinking that goes into creating a piece of media. The first presentation really illustrated what goes on in the background of a shot. There is alot more to a shot than what is in the main view of the camera. What goes on in the background of the shot is important in setting the mood, creating the setting and getting across a message. I also learned about how to create media. There are many steps involved in producing media starting with brainstorming and usually ending in editing the film.
I plan on using a commercial for my visual communications critique. There is usually alot of thought put into commercials because there is alot of money on the line.
Media literacy is very important. Media plays tricks to get you thinking how they want you to think. Being literet can help you filter through media's tricks and get to the true massage. Media has so much control on society and it is important for us to be able to think for ourselves.
